the human hand

Why Photograph the hand? Easy because we use them so much. Save your dirty jokes for another day. The Dirty Bread's goal is to have over 500 photos of the human hand by the end of the 2011 year. The human hand helps us complete the million task we use them for. Think about how this typing is being done. Who cares? Why do this? Hey! Why not, we got these hands might as well document them. This will be contrasting with another dirty bread project- Photographing people without hands. Hopefully, by the end of the year the Human Hand Project will be near completion. Keep Looking.

envelopes

One gets to see a lot of envelopes when working as a bike messenger. One also gets to be inside of buildings one will otherwise never have access too. One is also moving up and down and all over the city. Combine these facts, throw in a point and shoot camera, and the envelope project is born.  I gave myself one rule with this mini dirty bread project- I can only photograph the envelope in the surroundings of the pick up or the drop of spot. This presented the challenge of having to press the shutter in a limited area.  It's wild to see how when you have to take the shot you will find something of interest. One reasons I like shooting these envelopes is because I'm doing it (working as a messenger) anyways but the real reason is it questions what makes a picture good. With good light could an envelope take the place of a beautiful woman and still be a beautiful photograph?     Photographing envelopes in the streets of New York and indoors will be on ongoing theme at The Dirty Bread.
